San Isidro 2026

- 404 Years Since the Canonisation of San Isidro Labrador

(Partners / Families are welcome)

Please join us for the "INC Annual San Isidro Visit"!

Date: Thursday, 14th May

Time: 10:30 - 12:30 (followed by optional lunch)

As part of our continuing INC tradition of cultural heritage visits, we gather to explore the history, stories, and spirit of Madrid together.

Every year, on and around the 15th of May, the city of Madrid pays tribute to its Patron Saint, San Isidro Labrador, during the much-loved Feast of San Isidro.

This cherished tradition offers a splendid opportunity to experience Madrid’s rich history and enduring cultural spirit.

Partners / Families are warmly welcome to this cultural outing activity!

It is believed that more than one hundred miracles have been attributed to San Isidro, who was born and laid to rest in Madrid.

He was reputed to possess a remarkable gift for finding water.

We will visit San Isidro’s historical places:

“Colegiata de San Isidro el Real” (Royal San Isidro Church)

A magnificent Baroque church established in 1620, which served as Madrid’s principal cathedral until Almudena Cathedral became the official cathedral. The high altar contains the tombs of San Isidro and his wife, Santa María de la Cabeza.

“Capilla de San Isidro en la Iglesia de San Andrés” (Chapel of San Isidro in the Church of San Andrés)

Built upon the site of the saint’s former home, this chapel marks an important chapter in his life. His remains were preserved here until 1518, before being transferred.

“Museo de San Isidro – Los Orígenes de Madrid” (Museum of San Isidro – The Origins of Madrid)

A most engaging museum offering a journey through Madrid’s origins - from prehistoric times through to the establishment of the royal court.  Highlights include a 16th-century Renaissance courtyard, a 17th-century chapel, and the  “Miracle Well”, where it is believed the saint saved his son from drowning.

We will walk along with other historical spots with the Roman, Islamic and Christian heritage.
